Find a fiction book that you enjoy. Use this organizer in the same way we used to use our clues chart and our colored flags. As you read, think about the "5 w's and the h" to help you understand the story.
Jot your answers down in a journal or on a piece of paper. You will need these answers when you write your summary at the end.
Write down vocabulary as you read. These are words that are unfamiliar (think of the words I used to write on chart paper and hang up). First, write down what you THINK the word means, then put the actual definition down next to your guess so you can compare.
Use your answers from the first page to write up a summary of the story, using the "5 w's and the h." A summary does not need all the details. It should be 2-4 sentences. If you are using a chapter book, summarize each chapter.
